Plant Zero puts you in the heart of Manchester’s Warehouse District where art studios, galleries, commercial offices and restaurants attract a hive of buzzing creatives, business owners and residents – all who re-imagine this part of Richmond on a daily basis.
The revitalization of Manchester began with the development of The Commons at Plant Zero, setting the foundation for what is now referred to as the core of Manchester’s Warehouse District. The Plant Zero Community is comprised of uniquely designed apartment homes, art studios, commercial and retail, event space, and restaurants just across the Mayo Bridge in downtown Richmond!
The name “Plant Zero” is what the former industrial owner of the property called it. The odd name just stuck! The history of the community is truly remarkable. The site of Plant Zero was influential to Richmond’s rich industrial history. With the close proximity to the river, the Manchester area was prime for the industrial and manufacturing trade supplying the transportation of goods.
The original occupants of the apartment buildings here at Plant Zero produced blankets, tents and cots for the military during WWI. The Westvaco Paper Company was also an occupant of the location. They first produced the Marlboro Cigarette cartons which later, lost their contract to Philip Morris. Plant Zero now pays homage by spreading the color red throughout the community!
